If you have difficulty swallowing the balloon, Mr Monkhouse will revert to using a stylet – a fine flexible wire to help guide the capsule down into the stomach. Mr Monkhouse demonstates this technique in a video on his Instagram. 3 in 10 patients require this.  If you have anxiety, a light relaxant can be provided to take prior to having balloon placement. 

Weight loss results vary from person to person and depend on various factors such as adherence to the program, initial weight, and lifestyle habits. Average weight loss is between 10-15%. Some patients lose significnantly more weight than average.

The Allurion balloon is designed to be a temporary weight loss solution and typically remains in the stomach for approximately four months. After this period the balloon valve degrades and you pass the balloon naturally.

Exercise can complement your weight loss efforts, improve overall health, and enhance results. However, it’s essential to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise regimen, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

After approximately 16 weeks inside your stomach, a time-activated release valve will open, allowing the balloon to empty and pass naturally through the gastrointestinal tract without the need for a removal procedure.*

*In rare cases, the Allurion Balloon may require endoscopic or surgical intervention for removal.
